The relationship between parenting styles and attachment styles with adolescent sleep disorders: the mediating role of internet addiction

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between parenting styles and attachment styles with adolescent sleep disorders: the mediating role of Internet addiction. The research method was fundamental in terms of purpose and descriptive-correlational in terms of method. The statistical population of the study included all male and female high school students in Kashan in the academic year 1399-1400 in the number of 6470 people, of which according to Morgan table, a sample of 398 people were selected by available sampling and questionnaire Sleep Quality of Petersburg Boyce et al (1989) (PSQI), Schiffer Naghashian Parenting Styles Questionnaire (1358) (PSQ), Hazen and Shiver Adult Attachment Questionnaire (1987) (AASQ) and Young's Internet AddictionTest(1998)(IAT)Were evaluated. SPSS 23 and AMOS 23 software were used to analyze the data. The results showed that loving parenting style had a significant effect directly (p <0.01) and indirectly mediated by Internet addiction (p <0.05) on adolescent sleep disorders. Control parenting style is indirectly and mediated by Internet addiction has a significant relationship with adolescent sleep disorders (p <0.05). Also, anxiety attachment style is directly and indirectly mediated by Internet addiction with a sleep disorder (p <0.05). Avoidant attachment style has a significant effect directly (p <0.01) and indirectly mediated by Internet addiction (p <0.05) with adolescent sleep disorders. Therefore, according to the findings of the present study, dysfunctional parenting styles and insecure attachment styles mediated by Internet addiction can disrupt adolescents' sleep.
